T1LC News – October 2023

Jobs on 31463 continue a pace, work is focused on the radiator area.

Following 2 radiators failing testing a couple of weeks ago these have been returned to the stores at Loughborough and 2 oil and 2 coolant radiators were brought back to Ruddington. These were washed and pressure tested and all passed so we have a complete set of radiators for the loco and 1 oil and 1 coolant spare on site in case we have any issues.

The grill for B side is almost of stripped of paint. The area where the radiators live has been cleaned, stripped of paint and is currently in primer. A number of lugs which hold the grill on were life expired so all the lugs were removed, new ones cut, welded in, drilled and tapped.
On A side where the radiators live this has started to be cleaned. The grill is having some modifications to fit better in the frame before it is stripped of paint.

The bed plate drained has been unblock and fluid in the bed plate and the frame the power unit sits on drained. We have started clearing the sump of debris and sludge.

In the boiler room, the steel around the window frame was a bit rotten so the glass was removed and the window frame cut out. At the bench the rotten steel was cut off and replaced with new steel. Where this window frame was cut out from the plug welds on the main frame were ground flat but looking at the area itself we are going to have to do more work here before we can weld the window frame back in.

We have been having a reorganise of our stores to make it easier to find things as the rebuild continues and the extra space has meant we have been able to move our paint cupboard to the same area.
