T1LC News – March 2023

A lot of work has been happening on the ground since our last update, so here we go.
The clean air compartment roof section has had the rotten plate cut out and replaced. Internal painting has been completed, the air tanks that live on this section and others have been stripped and repainted and the electrical conduit refitted.
The boiler / radiator compartment roof internal repaint has been completed.
Both these roof sections are now the right way up and the wagon with the roofs has gone outside. We plan to work on all exterior faces of the roofs outside as weather permits.
On the power unit, the main engine bearings have been replaced and sump cleaning has been completed. The inspection hatch covers have had the gaskets removed and been washed in the parts washer. The oil filters have been rebuilt with new filters and a barrel of oil was put in the sump so we could start flushing the crank. Most of the fuel pumps have been fitted, the remainder will be fitted when the engine is next bared over as some of the fuel camms are in the up position. The conrods have been having a deep clean and little end bearings pushed out.
The modified roof gutter welding has been completed and all the roof gutters have been on the loco for a trial fit.
The doors for the radiator compartment have had their paint stripped and the locks have been worked on to make them work a bit more freely. Stripping of the paint on walls in the radiator compartment has been started.
